A Picture Of A Relationship With Jesus Christ

John 15:5 "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing." NASB
John 10:14-15 "I am the good shepherd; and I know My own, and My own know Me, even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep." NASB
Isaiah 62:5 "For as a young man marries a virgin, So your sons will marry you; And as the bridgegroom rejoices over the bride, So your God will rejoice over you." NASB
Ephesians 1:22-23 "And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fulness of Him who fills all in all." NASB
Ephesians 2:19-22 "So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God's household, having been built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together is growing into a holy temple in the Lord in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit." NASB
Galatians 4:4-8 "But when the fulness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, in order that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!" Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God. However at that time, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those which by nature are no gods." NASB
  • These verses are only a few metaphors the Bible uses to describe
    • Our relationship with God
    • A true relationship with God
  • He calls us by name because He loves us.
John 10:9 "I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture." NASB
  • This does not give you a license to sin, live apart from God and then return to God's pasture.

  • In this wonderful relationship Jesus Christ becomes your provider. You will go in and out and find pasture. God will meet your needs. Open windows. Open doors. Put opportunities in your path, etc. He will provide for you.
1 Peter 2:16 "Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bondslaves of God." NASB
  • This means you have been liberated and are free
John 8:31-32 "Jesus therefore was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, 'If you abide in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.'" NASB
  • In other words; you are no longer enslaved to this world, the flesh, or to the devil.
John 10:11 "I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep." NASB
  • Jesus Christ came to earth and died for you, not because you (or I) deserve it – but because He loves us. This is all a part of a relationship with the living God.
John 10:14-15 "I am the good shepherd; and I know My own, and My own know Me, even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep." NASB
  • He took the time to mold you, make you and get to know you. Will you take the time to do the same? If you have a relationship with Jesus Christ you will want to. Who wouldn’t? He knows your thoughts and deeds. Surely you would want to get know Him better and better every day so you can recognize the good shepherd's voice.
1 Peter 2:2 "Like newborn babes, long for the pure milk of the word, that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord." NASB

Please notice the warning:

John 10:1 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber." NASB
  • This is why a relationship with the living God is more than just walking down the isle at church or doing good deeds. Jesus mentions the thieves again in John 10:8 – these would be those that teach false doctrines or gospels. The thief in reference here is the devil. He comes to steal!

  • He will steal even if he has to kill to do so

  • He will kill all you dreams, hopes, goals, character, integrity, job, family, anything he can, to get you to miss hearing the voice of the Good Shepherd.

  • He will destroy what's left after he steals from you. Your life will be ruined. You may even get mad at the Good Shepherd – but it is not He that leads you astray. This is why it is essential that we grow every day as Christians, hold each other up, and meditate on His Word. Then we will be able to recognize the Good Shepherd's voice, as well as recognizing pitfalls, and temptations that can cost us consequences from the thief.

Jesus Christ gives life. Not just life but abundant life. Eternal life.
