Putting On The Armour Of God

God gives us many tools to face life, tackle temptation, win souls, etc.

• Prayer
• Surrounding yourselves with positive believers
• The Church
• Role models
• Preachers and Teachers
• And so many more

But in Ephesians, Paul talks in particular about seven weapons and calls them the Armour of God. We do not wrestle with flesh and blood (people) alone, but actually against principalities, powers, the rulers of the darkness of this world and spiritual wickedness in high places. This describes a pretty scary enemy that we must not only be aware of and alert to, but also be able to fight against.

1. He tells us to be strong (prepared and alert) by using His mighty power. Verse 11 tells us to put on the full armour so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. Learn all the weapons, hidden close in your heart so they are automatic in warfare. Be smart. Be alert. And above all fight for your family.

2. Wear the belt of truth buckled around your waist, verse 14. The truth shall set you free and you shall be free indeed. God's word is the same yesterday, today and forever. You can go boldly to the throne of grace to ask for mercy and find grace to help you in your time of need.

3. Use the breastplate of righteousness, verse 14b. The police use similar vests to protect all their vital organs as best they can in case of an attack. Why should we as Christians, knowing there is dangerous spiritual warfare all around us, not use a similar tool? The breastplate of righteousness is always standing with you and it is by faith we receive all the righteousness it provides. It also provides all the righteousness we need for that fight.

4. With your feet fitted with the readiness of the gospel of peace. verse 15. When a runner is ready for the race he has his feet firmly set and ready to sprint. He wears the perfect shoes. In this case these are shoes of peace. We walk in the power and authority of the mighty name of Jesus. At His name every knee in heaven, on earth and under the earth shall bow. (Phillipians 2:9-11) Be sure you have on shoes of peace and use them (or refer to them) often. Peace in your heart is the best way to overcome bitterness.

5. In addition to all this, pick up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. We marvel at the faith David had in fighting Goliath. These fiery darts cause us to speak negatively giving Satan entrance into situations. You can change this! If we have our shields up defensively and we ask the Holy Spirit to put a watch over our mouths we may be assured to speak only what His Word says.

6. Take the helmet of salvation, verse 17a. Salvation is very unique. It cannot be taken from you and it is how our every need is met. You cannot be plucked out of the hand of God. Salvation is what gives you the right to divine protection. Psalm 91.

7. Take the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God, verse 17b. Back in the day, believers didn't have the Bible to refer to or hold up against principalities. They didn't have it to use for teaching and reproach etc. God have given us this weapon. As we hide His word in our hearts we become indestructible when we rely on it. It is quick, powerful and sharper than any two edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). The Bible states the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through you to pull down the strongholds in our lives. 2 Corinthians 10:4

8. Prayer - above all for the saints, for they are fighting in the spiritual realm on our behalf, verse 18. Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. Keep in mind to be alert and always praying. Be fully dressed in your protection and you will stand complete in the victory over any attack of the devil.
