God Can't Do That
Imagine someone saying that. Well it's true! There are some things that God can't do! There are many things we can't do - like taming the tongue.
James 3:8 "But no one can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil and full of deadly poison." NASB
We will never understand the great mysteries of the Bible.
1 Timothy 3:16 "And by common confession great is the mystery of godliness: He who was revealed in the flesh, Was vindicated in the Spirit, Beheld byangels, Proclaimed among the nations, Believed on in theworld, Taken up in glory." NASB
We can't just listen and not react negatively.
James 1:19-20 "This you know, my beloved brethren. But let everyone be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; for the anger of man doesnot achieve the righteousness of God." NASB
There are so many more things that we have been commanded to do, that we will never be completely successful at. But God? He can do anything - right? There are many things we focus on that God can do, but a friend recently told me a few things that God can't do.
God can't get tired.
Isaiah 40:28 "Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary ortired. understanding is inscrutable" NASB
- If youd keep reading, He even renews our strength!
God can't take on a job that He can't handle.
Jeremiah 32:17-20 "Ah Lord God! Behold, Thou hast made the heavens and the earth by Thy great power and by Thine outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for Thee, who showest lovingkindness to thousands, buy repayest the iniquity of fathers into the bosom of their children after them, O great and mighty God. The Lord of hosts is His name; great in counsel and mighty in deed, whose eyes are open to all the ways of the sons of men, giving to everyone according to his ways and according to the fruit of his deeds; who hast set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, and even to this day both in Israel and among mankind; and Thou hast made a name for Thyself, as at this day." NASB
- I have often thought, I could handle a task only to fail or have to ask for help. God doesn't need our help. He loves our help, communication and the work that we do for him; because he loves for us to be close to Him.
God can't be unholy.
Isaiah 6:3 "And one called out to another and said, 'Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord of hosts, The whole earth is full of His glory.'" NASB
- Even the Angels sing of his holiness, day and night.
God can't be prejudiced.
Acts 10:34-35 "And opening his mouth, Peter said: 'I most certainly understand now that God is not one to show partiality, but in every nation the man who fears Him and does what is right, is welcome to Him.'" NASB
- It's like the children's song we used to sing: "Red and yellow black and white, they are precious in His sight"
God can't break a promise.
Psalms 89:34 "My covenant I will not violate, Nor will I alter the utterance of My lips." NASB
2 Peter 3:9-10 "The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up." NASB
- There are many verses that talk about promises from God - like the Rainbow is a symbol of a promise not to destroy the earth by flood again. The Promise of the Holy Spirit to live in anyone who ask Jesus Christ to be Lord and Savior of their lives, etc ...
God can't remember sins he's chosen to forget.
Isaiah 43:25 "I, even I, am the one who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake; And I will not remember your sins." NASB
Psalm 103:11-13 "For as high as the heavens are above the earth, So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us. Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him." NASB
- This is another thing we can never completely accomplish. We might forgive, but for some human earthly reason, we do not forget (as we are commanded to do).
God can't make a loser.
2 Corinthians 2:14 "But thanks be to God, who always leads us in His triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place. For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing; to the one an aroma from death to death, to the other an aroma from life to life. And who is adequate for these things? For we are not like many, peddling the word of God, but as from sincerity, but as from God, we speak in Christ in the sight of God." NASB
- We have all heard God doesn't make mistakes when a child is born with a birth defect, etc. It's true. God made each of us a winner - just ask - He's a gentleman and won't push himself into your life.
God can't abandon you.
Deuteronomy 31:6 "Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the Lord your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you." NASB
- This is also found in the New Testament:
Hebrews 13:5-6 "Let your character be free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, 'I will never desert you, nor will I ever foresake you,' so that we confidently say, 'The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What shall man do to me?'" NASB
God can't stop thinking about you.
Psalms 139:17-18 "How precious also are Thy thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand. When I awake, I am still with Thee." NASB
Psalm 94:11 "The Lord knows the thoughts of man, That they are a mere breath." NASB
God can't stop loving you.
Jeremiah 31:3 "The Lord appeared to him from afar, saying, 'I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness.'" NASB
Romans 5:8 "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." NASB
- It's unconditional, no matter what you've done and where you're at in life.
The most important thing to remember is the major thing WE can't do, and that is to get our name written in the book of life without having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We have to repent of our sins, and receive Him into our hearts as our personal savior. That one action begins our personal relationship with Him. Many believe there is a God and a heaven, (even Satan does) that's not what it takes. Many people think they will go to heaven and hear "I don't know you" from the Master instead. How awful! Be sure you know what you can't do and what God can't do. It's just as important as what He can do. Which is awesome!
